usage of type vs sorte

Dear members,

                                  Hi! I am slightly confused about the usage of the words 'type' and 'sorte' in french. On the same contextI would like to know if it is correct usage in the following situation:

                                     Il y a beaucoup de types des trains a la gare ( sorry for not using accents)

 

                                     Il y a beaucoup de types des livres a la bibliotheque.

 

                                Also please clarify to me the usage of  'sorte'.

First off ,it would have to be "types de trains" and not "types des trains". (I think that "type"  is an example of what is called a collective noun)

I am not familiar with differences in meaning or usage  between type/sorte/genre/espèce .I think you are right that there there are subtle differences  but I am sorry I can't tell you what they are.

I am more used to seeing "type" being used to mean "guy"  along with "mec" .

Also now that I think about it ,there is a use of "sorte" in the expression "de sorte que"  which can be translated as "so that"
