Please correct any mistakes I made in this: 

Récemment, nous sommes allés à regarder le labyrinthe Runner. Je ne crois pas que j'aimerais qu'il soit comme je préfère les films d'horreur de films d'action; toutefois, j'ai été agréablement surpris de constater que j'ai apprécié regarder. J'ai aimé le film parce que même si c'était un film d'action, il avait certaines pièces effrayant dans ce qui m'a plu.

Also what about  "m'a plu" (or m'avait plu" instead of" me plaisait" in this case?

I was taught in school to write "Je pensait que je ne l'aimerais pas" although I think I have also heard "Je pensait que je n'aimerais pas"

No. It means that the real situation or the real outcome is different from what was expected, imagined or believed. It indicates that the rest of the sentence is a rectification.

"En fait" means "actually" or "in fact", it's correct, it's a notion of contradiction

I wonder if perhaps Robert is thinking of "en effet" which does , I think confirm what has just been stated.

I think "en effet" is sometimes translated as "indeed".

Oh if it's about "en effet" he's right. 

 The absence of the  " l' " is an ellipsis, common even at writing. It's not a mistake but it's more secure to use the " l' " because if the examiner is pedantic and unimaginative (I had forgotten that they often are) it's always better to have a very docile writing style.

'En fait' can be for rectification, or for disillusioning. But it can do quite the opposite: to use what came before as springboard to something even stronger and more specific:

Elles jouent un rôle important dans levieillissement et le développement, ce qui en fait une cible intéressante pour les médicaments et les stratégies d'apport d'antioxydants.

Same with 'In fact':
I don't work. In fact, I've never had a job.

I suppose the translation above is ok. I am just more tuned to this sense of it being agreement- or even more, as emphasis.

J'aime ton alinéa. You meant to write 'pourrait me plaire' , just 1 'me' , right?

'Translation', il s'agit des langues, pas une seule, non? Au lieu de lui, je proposerais de dire 'rendering' ou 'rephrasing.'
