Échappées Belles

Most of the time I watch French TV. This is one way to keep my smattering knowledge of French.

To be candid, I miss lots of things. I can't understand everything on French TV.

There is a programme under the title ' Échappées Belles '

I combed my dictionaries. The closest clue was 'narrow escapes'.

Please help me.

I am guessing (well researching) again but I think it just means "Beautiful Breakaways" (as in Holidays ).

Perhaps it is a play on words also as "echapper belle" sounds like it can mean "to have a narrow escape" .

I know the exact meaning of the English words 'narrow escapes'.

The content of the programme has nothing to do with narrow escapes, as far as I am concerned.

Breakaways is acceptable to a certain extent.

yes it's a pun: a nice breakaway / have a narrow escape

s'évader, se changer les idées, échapper au quotidien.

you can also have "une belle échappée" in sport when a competitor has broken away from the group

Well, there is a play of word in Echappées Belles".

Litteraly it means as written below, but when you say "je l'ai échappé belle", it means close calls
