question regarding lyrics

Hi,

I was curious about the structure of this sentence taken from the song
"Les Amoureux Qui Passent" by Christophe

 

"Mais il reste la trace
Dans mon coeur de leur pas"

is the "leur" an indirect object? and has the 'ne' of ne pas been left out? If so, where's the verb??

The translation says: "...of their steps in my heart"

 

so, could anyone help me with the part in bold?

pas means "(foot)steps" here  and is not the second part of  ne ...pas .

And leur means "their" and so is an adjective in this sentence.

It can also be used to mean "to them" but not in this case. (lui =to him/her/it  and leur =to them)

"But the track (or 'trace') of their footsteps remain in my heart."  It's a lyric, and, by definition poetry.  In poetic forms word order often makes way for rhyme.  I wonder how the sentence you quote fits into the rhyme scheme of the entire lyric.
