Une fois, nous avons recontre Oliver Stone qui nous a dit qu'il pouvait avoir besoin de nous pour The Doors, le film qu'il tournait a l'epoque.

Once we met Oliver Stone who told us he might need (pouvait avoir besoin) us for  "The Doors" , the film he was  shooting (tournait) at that  time (a l'epoque).

 

In the French text   the simple past tense -and not the plupefect (or past perfect) -is being used (although pouvait and  tournait are imperfect tenses -also called "past continuous" I think)
