Hello,
lâcher means "to let go of" : the teacher let go of Rufus' s ear and slapped herself on the forehead
The mistress let go of Rufus's ear and she struck his forehead with her hand. (Are we talking about a person?)
The mistress released Rufus's ear and hit him in the snout with her hand. (Are we talking about a dog?)
It's hard to do this without a context. Who is the mistress? Who or what is Rufus?
@Charles .It reads ""La maîtresse .....s’ est frappé le front" which indicates that it is her own forehead and not Rufus's that she struck.
Because of the reflexive "s' " before "est" .
