Needle in Haystack

Is there a French equivalent to this English idiom?  "Needle in a haystack" (something very very unlikely to be found, greatly against the odds)?  What about "bird's eye view"?

It is translated literally : une aiguille dans une botte de foin. For the second idiom, we can say avoir un oeil de lynx or avoir la vue perçante.

Ed -- I think by "bird's eye view" they simply meant "vue de haut".

Thanks guys!  Say, is there an expression in French which means looking for a very long-shot (like 'needle in haystack')?  Is this literal translation used that way in French?
