in the following sentence which is the subject and what does "que" refer to the VIOLENCE
or the "JE"

C'est la violance dans le programme que
je deteste.

Hi Mali,

"que" is indeed the subject. What does it refer to? Well, it could be either "la violence" or "le programme". Without the context, it's impossible to tell.

You can hate violence. But you can also hate a program.

But it can't refer to "je". As a rule of thumb, "que" can never refer to a pronoun.

Btw, if you're talking about a TV program, you'd rather translate it as "émission" (which is feminine).
