Starting out?

Hello everyone. I'm hoping you can help me.

I don't speak a word of French, and I want to try and learn as fast as I can. Around 1 year to get to advanced? I won't be living in a French speaking country, however. But I do have some things on my side to aid me.

+ I know Japanese. If I can learn something as complicated as this language, I'm sure French isn't as bad.

+ I am French. My family are French, but sadly, didn't raise me Bilingo. I live in Scotland, so I'm not too far away from the country.

+ I will be in France (Montpellier and Paris) for a few days in Summer, not long sadly.

I plan on getting my family to help my pronounciation, and help me practice. I'm going to learn as much grammar as I can and volcab before I go, and hopefully I'll pick some things up.

Do you have any advice to add? I'm not too sure.

If you want to learn it fast, try to be permeated with the French language as much as possible. Talk in French with your family as much as you can. Watch French tv shows or French movies, listen and learn some French songs... that's basically how I improved my English, besides my courses, so I guess it can help you with French as well.
