Can you please explain the difference between "comment va-tu?" and "comment ça va?"? Thanks.

Indeed, ''comment vas-tu?'' is familiar while ''comment ça va?'' is used in a more formal situation.

You can also use the expression ''ça va ?'', which is shorter and almost means the same (you are fine ?). However, it is more a familiar than a formal expression.
