apprendre v. enseigner

i just came across this sentence: 

Avec ces poupées, on apprend aux filles qu’elles doivent faire attention à leur apparence, à leurs vêtements.

please advise when to use "apprendre" and when "enseigner" when referring to "teaching."  would it b wrong to use "enseigner" in the sentence above?  it's easier for me to always use it.

Enseigner probably involves a lengthier process of transmitting knowledge  ,more like "educate" perhaps.

Or "train" maybe.

Apprendre is more generic,I'd say.
