these usages of "tenir" and "se tenir"

usages of “tenir”  

(1) A dictionary cited one usage of “tenir” to be “to run [a hotel or shop].” 

I would use gérer but might I hear “tenir” in this context?  

(2) tenir meaning “to be contained, to fit”

mes vêtements tiendront dans une valise

Is this usage used?  Related is: 

“ne pas tenir en hauteur, longeur, largeur” being used if sth. is too tall, wide, long to be contained 

(3)  tenir qn pour    -  to take sb for

usages of “se tenir”

(1) I forget why “se tenir” is used in the two examples.  Is it because it involves trying not to let go?      

to hold onto a branch

se tenir à une branche

to hold onto sth. with one hand

se tenir d’une main à qch

(2)  to remain 

to be standing at the door; w/o moving

se tenir à la porte; sans bouger

This seems to apply to standing only whereas “rester” would be used if referring to remaining seated, in bed, in a certain position     

(3)  to be ready - se tenir prêt.  there is also the non-reflexive “tenir prêt” meaning “to have ready

I can find no examples.               

(4) stand up straight --  tiens-toi droit

Google translator has “tiens-toi debout.”  It would seem to merely tell someone to remain standing but ignore how they do so.

With regard to my last example, I just found the following example:

Arrête de manger le nez dans ton assiette, tiens-toi droit.    Don't slouch while you're eating, sit up straight.  

So apparently, "tiens-toi droit" means to comport yourself properly physically regardless of whether standing or sitting (or presumably even lying down)
