Hi all,
I have some questions regarding about using this word 'want' to construct sentence.
Please check if I'm correct for this one- vouloir:
I found a sentence which i need some help.
In english the sentence is: he wanted to wait. in french the line is as: Il voulait partir
Why is the sentence not construct as 'Il veut partir'
Another sentence in English: I didn't want to buy ut. In french the line is: Je ne voulais pas l'acheter
Why is the sentence not construct as 'Je ne veux pas l'acheter'

In your first sentence "he wanted" is the 3rd person singular of the past tense of the verb "to want"
In your second sentence "I didn't want" is ,similarly, the first person singular of the past tense of the verb "to want"
In order to translate the sentence into French you will have to use a construction from the past tense of vouloir (=to want)
It goes like this

We write 'English' not 'english'. Not 'french' but 'French'.
