all the dictionary definitions of dull reference the visual, rather than the visceral.  How does one say a "dull" pain?  Thanks

OK I'm replying to myself, but in case anyone is interested, I realized that a dull knife is really a blunt knife, and I found émoussé under blunt, also for "blunt, dull pain".

In this case, the word you want is sourd and you can talk about une douleur sourde.

I've not heard of a "dull knife", but I suppose you could indeed use émoussé.

Thanks so much.
