I have been asked whether the name "Canaillou" for a brand of bone-shaped dog biscuits has any significance and what connotations it might have for a native French speaker.

Hello,

it conveys some affection generally for a child or a pet, it comes from canaille and the ending "ou" sort of softens its meaning to say something like "you mischievous one/ you little devil/ rascal"
