Very very literally, but not natural English:

"One is always ungrateful for the gift of the essential, never for the gift of the unnecessary. One begrudges he who gives us our daily bread, one is grateful to he who gives us finery."

So in more natural English, maybe something like this:

"We are always ungrateful for being given things that are essential, and never for those that are superfluous. We begrudge those who give us our daily bread, whilst being grateful to those who bestow finery upon us."
